Sweet & Sticky Slow-Cooked Pulled Pork Burger with Apple Slaw

This sweet and sticky pulled pork burger is all about big flavour with minimal effort. Pork is slow-cooked until meltingly tender, then shredded and tossed through a rich, sticky BBQ sauce that clings to every strand. It’s comfort food done properly – soft, juicy, and loaded into warm buns for an easy crowd-pleaser.

The crunchy slaw keeps things balanced, using a simple bagged slaw mix dressed with apple sauce and mayonnaise for a touch of sweetness and creaminess. Together, the sticky pork and fresh slaw make a burger that feels indulgent but still well-rounded, perfect for family dinners or casual entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 1.2–1.5 kg pork shoulder or pork butt
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and cracked black pepper
  • 1 cup sweet sticky BBQ sauce (your favourite)
  • 1 bag coleslaw mix
  • 2 tbsp apple sauce
  • 2 tbsp whole-egg mayonnaise
  • Soft burger buns

Method

  1. Season pork generously with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Place pork into slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours or until very tender.
  3. Remove pork, drain slow cooker and retain 1 cup in case you need to add it back, shred with two forks, and return to the cooker.
  4. Mix BBQ sauce through the shredded pork until evenly coated and sticky.
  5. In a bowl, combine slaw mix with apple sauce and mayonnaise; toss well.
  6. Lightly toast buns, fill with pulled pork, top with slaw, and serve.
💡
Pro tip: For extra flavour, remove the lid for the last 20 minutes on high to let the sauce thicken and caramelise slightly.

Optional Extras

  • Pickled red onion or jalapeños
  • A slice of melted cheddar or colby
  • Extra BBQ sauce or hot sauce
  • Brioche buns instead of standard rolls
